Face to Face with Alastair Biggart OBE
Face to Face with Alastair Biggart OBE

An insider’s account of the Channel Tunnel construction era, the trials encountered on the Storebaelt undersea tunnelling project in Denmark, and management of the Hollywood Line extension of the Los Angeles Metro, are the featured elements of this TunnelCast interview with Alastair Biggart OBE and UK tunnelling engineer. He describes his early days, in a dedicated tunnel engineering career on the Victoria Line of the London Underground, as “a time of huge transition” and highlights the differences in his roles as part of the contractor’s team on the Channel Tunnel with TML - for which he was awarded the OBE in 1996 - and then as part of the owner’s organisation on the Storebælt and LA Metro projects. Biggart’s is a rich career with worldwide and multi-disciplinary experiences, and one that continues today as an independent consultant on 19 important international tunnelling projects.
