March, 2008: For the first time a bored tunnel will cross the San Francisco Bay. With an estimated price tag of US$270 million the Bay Tunnel is the largest and most expensive element of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's (SFPUC) giant program to seismically upgrade its aging pipelines, tunnels, reservoirs and dams.
