ITA call nominations for the 2021 Awards 20 May 2021

Applications are invited to participate in the seventh edition of the international ITA Tunnelling Awards competition that seeks to reward the most ground breaking innovations and outstanding projects in the tunnelling and underground space utilization industry.

Nominations are gathered from the 78 Member Nations of the International Tunnelling Association and its 300 corporate and individual members, to showcase the latest innovations, techniques and methods implemented in underground construction. The annual awards series presents an overview of global projects and developments.

New candidates are invited to submit nominations for the eight categories of competition:

• Major Project of the Year of more than €500 million
• Project of the Year of between €50 million and €500 million
• Project of the Year and Renovation of up to €50 million
• Technical Innovation of the Year
• Beyond Engineering - making underground works projects even better
• Oddities of the Underground
• Innovative use of underground spaces
• Young Tunneller of the Year

Online entries can be submitted until 30 June 2021. The submission requirements and online entry portal is on the dedicated ITA Tunnelling Awards website.

Nominations invited for eight categories

Nominations for project categories must relate to projects for which the major civil engineering work was completed between 1 January 2019 and 1 April 2021.

The Young Tunneller of the Year rewards an individual born after 1 January 1986 and who has made an active contribution to tunnelling.

As with the event in 2020, and due to the global pandemic which continues to impact international travels, the conference day for the shortlisted entries for 2021 and the announcement of the category winners will be held once again online through a dedicated platform. The digital schedule is a substitute for the event in person that was to take place in Mumbai, India, in November. All are invited to submit entries and to join the online celebrations.
