Nominations are open for the 2018 ITA COSUF prize which is awarded annually to a student, young professional or researcher under 35 years old, who has recently completed outstanding research work related to operational safety or security of underground facilities.
Candidates need not be ITA COSUF members, and applications should be sent to the ITA Secretariat by the 30 June 2018 closing date. The winner will be selected by the steering board by 15 September 2018 and the award will be presented with the prize during the ITA COSUF General Assembly on 2 October 2018 in Lyon, France, and prior to the PIARC International Conference on Road Tunnel Operations and Safety from 3 to 5 October 2018.
The prize winner will receive a recognition certificate, €1,000 cash, the opportunity to present the work at the ITA COSUF General Assembly, and will have news of winning project published by the ITA.
“To develop the culture and knowhow of scientists and practitioners is a basic idea of ITA COSUF and this is a main motivation to offer the COSUF Award," said Max Wietek, ITA COSUF Chairman.
Recent winners of the award are Wilson Ulises Rojas Alva in 2016 for his contribution to the safety of underground facilities through his work on scaled experiments using the helium technique to study the vehicular blockage effect on longitudinal ventilation control in tunnels; Karl Fridolf in 2015 for his work on evacuation in rail tunnels; and Francesco Colella in 2014 for his work on the modelling of tunnel ventilation systems with a multi-scale model.
