Two new tunnelsaws have been commissioned and produced by Australian owned Echidna to undertake two quite different projects that required precision cutting.
In Germany, a custom built tunnelsaw from Echidna was used during renovation of the Kaiser Wilhelm Tunnel for the Subterra/Metrostav Group where instability of the lining called for sections to be removed and repaired. The saw was designed to follow the shape of the tunnel interior with a tilt rotator to control cutting speed and allow precise incision. It was able to remove sections of 50cm by 80cm.
In Bavaria another custom built tunnelsaw from Echidna was used by Marti AG during construction of the Oberau tunnel to cut the holes for emergency exits between tunnels. A tilt unit was used to manipulate the blade between vertical and horizontal cutting positions with a hydraulic infinite rotator to allow the blade to rotate in 360 degrees at each position.
Designed in Europe and Australia to high specifications, Echidna provides safety features such as automatic blade braking, double swivelling shield and reversible rotation function. Rotation speeds of up to 4800 rpm, integrated cooling system, motorspeed sensor and automatic feed via joysticks all ensure the safest possible product.
Importer and distributor of Echidna saws, Dutch company ARVI recently presented a selection of saws at the 2017 Geomechanics Colloquium in Salzburg.
