High performance TBM tail sealants from Normet 14 May 2020

The next generation of high performance, biodegradable, fire resistant and eco-friendly sealants for TBM tail shields have been introduced into the Normet TBM product range. TamSeal TG91 and TamSeal TG92 have been formulated using plant-oil based technology to continue its commitment to developing eco-friendly and safe solutions for the tunnelling and mining industry.

TamSeal for high performance tail sealants

TamSeal TG91 driving grade and TamSeal TG92 first fill sealants have a lower density from previous versions to offer improved pumpability and to allow the wire brush chambers to be filled efficiently and economically with low material consumption. The washout characteristics, adhesion and compressibility qualities have been optimised through vigorous testing, mitigating wire brush leaks during sharp changes in tunnel alignment and through demanding geological conditions.

Normet has complemented its new tail sealant products with developments in its soil conditioning technologies. Eco-friendly surfactants and polymers have been formulated to reduce cutterhead torque, improve muck flow characteristics and ensure a homogenous material within the working chamber. The improvements minimise production risks and maintain advancement rates through strata types while at the same time offering market leading economy.
