The British Tunnelling Society (BTS) is leading a social media campaign to promote National Tunnelling Day, Wednesday, 4 December 2019, an annual event where the industry is promoted to the wider public and young people across the UK to show them how rewarding a career in tunnelling can be.
It is also an opportunity for the public to catch a glimpse of the world class infrastructure projects currently being delivered by tunnelling professionals across the UK. This year marks the fifth National Tunnelling Day, and the BTS has opted to celebrate it on the same day as World Tunnelling Day, to align with the feast day of St Barbara, the patron saint of tunnellers.
A social media campaign is running to promote the event, and industry members are invited to join in by sharing how their organisation contributes to tunnelling excellence in the UK, through images, news items, or items of historical interest, using the hashtags #TunnelDayUK and #WorldTunnelDay. The BTS Young Members organisation is leading the social media campaign through the @BTSYM twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram accounts, and will be re-tweeting and sharing content throughout the day to its network of followers.
This year the organisation is challenging individuals in the industry to speak to five different people outside of the tunnelling community to tell them how tunnels and underground structures play an important and critical role in society and UK infrastructure.
