“The STUVA Conference this year takes place in turbulent times,” said Dr Martin Ziegler, STUVA Chairman of the Board. “As climate change affects political decisions regarding transportation, the combustion engine is being ousted throughout the world by city tolls and bans on vehicles, and pedestrians and cyclists are at last getting the space they need. But fewer cars mean that rail traffic has to be expanded as vigorously as possible. This applies to metro systems as well as high-speed rail routes that can only be accomplished if new tunnels are excavated and existing ones refurbished.”
“Upgrading and integration of public transportation, the advancement of a fast trans-European rail network, development of the infrastructure for electro-mobility and the genuine participation of people with restricted mobility are the targets. The STUVA Conferences help to refocus the tunnelling industry to plan for the future,” he added in promoting the convening of STUVA 2019 to take place in Frankfurt from 26-28 November and promises to be the best STUVA yet with more than 3,000 participants expected.
A fixed date in the calendar every two years of many national and international tunnelling experts, the conference covers recent developments in all fields of underground construction with additional focus this year on new technologies, design, construction, maintenance, economic issues, safety and risk during construction and operation, and contractual issues from tendering to award. A special awards dinner will be held on the first day, and there will be construction site and factory visits on the third day.
The accompanying exhibition will host about 200 exhibiting companies and offers an impressive insight into the innovative strength of the tunnelling industry. Visit the TunnelTalk exhibition preview to know the companies exhibiting and where to find them in the 7,000m2 exhibition hall floorplan.
Admission to the STUVA Expo exhibition is free of charge with prior visitor registration while participation in the conference is subject to a registration fee.
