The company, which also manufactures raise boring machines and other professional tunnelling and mining equipment, was incorporated in Australia in 1990 to cover the need in the market for a local designer and manufacturer of custom-made boring equipment to meet the requirements of tunnelling contractors and mining companies, while also complying with all the applicable Australian quality and safety standards.

The company delivered its first order for a TBM in 1991, and its first raise borer two years later in 1993. Since then Terratec has expanded its sales coverage steadily in Australia and other overseas markets including China, South East Asia, India, Europe and North and South America.

Terratec’s original expertise is in hard rock excavation. The company has engineers in its team with more than 40 years experience in designing hard rock TBMs and raise borers. Since 2005 the company has also expanded its technical expertise to include soft ground machines, thanks to cooperation agreements with Japanese shield manufacturers. The results are demonstrated in multiple orders for Terratec EPBMs for soft ground metro projects in Perth, Delhi, Bangkok and Istanbul, where the machines’ practical design, performance and reliability have been proven.

Terratec is able to guarantee after-sales and service worldwide through a global network that includes regional offices in Australia, Hong Kong, China, India, Thailand, Dubai and Panama. These are in addition to the team of local representatives that Terratec has in many other countries. With this global network, the company is able to ensure a quick and efficient response to clients at every stage of a project.
