Epiroc is to discontinue its Meyco concrete spraying business by end of 2020. Specific reasons for the decision by Epiroc were not forthcoming nor were answers to queries as to why the product line is being phased out rather than sold.
Epiroc manufactures six products in the concrete spraying line at its product companies in Örebro (Sweden), Nashik (India) and Nanjing (China).
In a press release statement Sarah Hoffman, Vice President Marketing for the Underground division at Epiroc said: “We are constantly reviewing our customer solutions offering to ensure we keep Epiroc strong and agile for the future. This work is a natural part of product life cycle management, required to ensure a healthy, profitable and competitive portfolio. We will phase out the concrete spraying line within 2020 while evaluating other alternatives for this portfolio.”
The press release stated that "Epiroc will ensure a minimum impact on customers with concrete spraying equipment and will fulfil its obligations under orders on hand, warranty undertakings and the service support thereafter".
The Meyco product line was acquired in 2013 by Atlas Copco, from which Epiroc was created in a restructure of the Swedish mining and tunnelling equipment manufacturer in 2017. BASF itself sold its construction chemicals division to Texas Lone Star, a global private equity firm, in January 2020.
The core product lines of Epiroc are drilling jumbos, rock excavation equipment and construction tools. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, the shareholder listed company had revenues of SEK 41 billion in 2019 and has more than 14,000 employees for operations in more than 150 countries. The Meyco business is part of the Underground and Parts & Services divisions of Epiroc.
