With the celebration of its 10th Anniversary, Quebec based Nyx Hemera, producer of controllable lighting for tunnels, announces that its lighting controller has received the UL standard certification.
Pierre Longtin founded the company in 2008 when he developed the Tunnel Lighting Addressable Control System (TLACS) which has optimized tunnel operations, reduced energy consumption, and cut costs for tunnel operators worldwide. After being commissioned for over 50 tunnels on five continents, the company is soon moving to larger premises and is developing Industry standards for its products.
“We want to thank tunnel operators and luminaire manufacturers for choosing the TLACS system,” said Pierre Longtin, President of Nyx Hemera Technologies.
Part of the TLACS system, The Local Product Controller (LPC 480) has recently received the UL916 certification, the US standard for energy management equipment. It controls and monitors the tunnel luminaires through a power line from the TLACS Lighting Control Cabinet (LCC) and can be installed in any tunnel luminaire electrical installation from 120 to 480 VAC.
Using up to eight frequency channels at a communication speed from 360bps to 23000bps, reliable communication is achieved between control centre and luminaires by using time and frequency domain modulation techniques and multiple receivers that overcome noise and signal reduction on power lines.
“We are pleased to have the UL 916-energy management equipment certification. As lighting is one of the most energy-consuming systems in tunnels, this certification will help operators concerned about reducing energy costs in their tunnels,” said Longtin.
