Double contract win to supply moulds to Australia 05 Jul 2018

Segments for two major Australian projects in Melbourne – the West Gate highway tunnel and the metro extension - will be cast using carousels on order from French supplier CBE.

Moulds to be supplied to Australian projects

For the 15m diameter TBM-bored, twin-tube West Gate highway tunnel, CBE will supply a steam curing carousel and 40 moulds to cast segments for 2.4m wide rings. The CPBJH JV of CPB Contractors and John Holland has ordered two 15.6m o.d. EPB Shield Herrenknecht TBMs to excavate the three-lane tunnels that will relieve traffic on the West Gate bridge by rerouting more than 9,000 trucks out of the residential areas located on the western part of the city.

For the new metro line, segments will be cast in 60 CBE moulds and on a CBE carousel to line twin tunnels of 9km each which will cross the city from west to south-east, allowing the creation of five new metro stations. The Cross Yara Partnership consortium, comprising Lendlease Engineering, John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital, has ordered four Herrenknecht slurry TBMs to excavate the tunnels through 50% siltstone and siltstone/ basalt with soft soils (clays, sands and silts). Each 6.3m i.d. ring of precast segmental lining will comprise six segments and a key.

CBE has taken part in several projects in Australia including two carousels and 96 moulds for the extension of Sydney Metro in 2017 and following supply of equipment and moulds to the first section of the Sydney Metro in 2015.
