Parsons Brinckerhoff International Director for Tunnels, Dr Doug Maconochie, is awarded the triennial Australasian Tunnelling Society (ATS) Allen Neyland Tunnelling Achievement Award.
Paying tribute to Maconochie’s achievements ATS Chairman Simon Knight said: “The Allen Neyland Achievement Award is bestowed on an Australian for outstanding achievement associated with tunnelling and underground excavation and construction. Doug is the ideal candidate for this award with over 40 years in the industry and major design and construction management roles on some of the world’s most significant transit projects, including Eastlink in Melbourne, Airport Link in Brisbane, the Epping-Chatswood Rail Link in Sydney and the Waterview Connection Project in Auckland.”
Parsons Brinckerhoff Australian Director of Transport Mark Keogh said technical ability, vision, drive and a collaborative approach all combined to make Maconochie invaluable to the tunnelling industry. “Doug’s technical ability, capacity for building relationships and drive to develop our next generation of young engineers makes him a worthy recipient of this award,” he said.
“I would like to thank the ATS for recognising Doug’s contribution to the industry, and I congratulate Doug on this outstanding and well-deserved achievement,” he added.
Accepting the award Dr Maconochie reflected on his career and paid tribute to his family: “I am truly humbled to receive this award, particularly in light of previous recipients. It was a fascination with mining and tunnelling and a passion for building things that led me down this path. I have spent my life working on some of the most exciting tunnelling projects in Australia and the world. This would not have been possible without the unstinting support of my wife and two sons.”
