A volume loss of less than 1% and in some cases 0.5%, are the criteria for settlement control on the Crossrail project in London. Article 3 in our series of Crossrail geotechnical features explains the measures being applied to achieve this on the long TBM drives under the city centre. To add to the DRB debate, an article from Canada promoting the appointment of DRBs examines how claims for differing ground conditions influenced the process on three different projects. Resolution of claims is covered in a new book that analyses for the first time the full suite of FIDIC forms of contract.
