Loss of the miners in New Zealand gives the civil tunnelling industry pause for thought - how would tunnellers trapped at the face end of long single-entry drives be rescued? Fires in tunnels are devastating events but a rock fall, similar to the Chile mine rescue, could prove equally fatal.
