Options for underground transport infrastructure in preference to surface-level alternatives continue to attract support. In Brazil an immersed tube crossing is now favoured over the bridge alternative to link Santos, the largest seaport of the country, with Guaruja city on the other side of the estuary, while in the UK a further 9km of planned high speed rail line is to run underground instead of at grade.
