From the Editor's Desk - 20 Aug 2010
We continue our series of Crossrail geotechnical features this week with a focus on the site investigation work and interpretation of conditions and expectations along the alignment of the TBM running tunnels. From the data provided, the tunnelling operations will be programmed, machine features will be specified, and ground movement monitoring systems and controls will be devised. Monitoring systems and settlement control measures will be discussed in next week's feature. This week we revisit the DRB Discussion Forum debate. Following the success of the DRB to facilitate settlement of claims and disputes on the Dublin Port Tunnel last week, the value of a good DRB is once again highlighted. But how to arrive at a good DRB? Join the debate about the set up and function of DRBs on underground and tunnelling contracts.
