The starving of funds to major rail infrastructure in the UK over the decades is at last being addressed and the prospects are exhilarating. The potential of high speed journeys on through trains from Scotland on HS2, through London onto HS1 - now owned and operated by the Canadians - through the Channel Tunnel and into Europe, and perhaps on a German ICE train, is truly transforming attitudes toward middle distance travel. The age of the train returns with tremendous investment not only across Europe but throughout China, India, and North and South America. Could it be time to privatize Amtrak in the USA?
