SAK news release
After submitting the lowest of six bids, a new $31.9 million wastewater relief tunnel for Austin, Texas is awarded to SAK Construction. The 3.5-mile (5.6km) Downtown Wastewater Tunnel project for the City of Austin Public Works Department will expand wastewater capacity and accommodate continued growth and redevelopment of the downtown and south area of the city. The new wastewater relief tunnel makes three crossings of the Lady Bird Lake waterway and varies in diameter from 8ft and 10ft (2.4m-3m) to accommodate sewer pipelines of 54in to 96in (1.3m-2.4m) diameter. Work on site will start this month (January 2010) and is scheduled to be completed for March 2012.
