Politicians rarely sacrifice their jobs, but for the Mayor of Seattle: "There are issues worth losing elections over". In years to come few will remember the price or the personalities behind the deep tunnel replacement of the Alaskan Way Viaduct but all will herald the benefit. Prize enough for any civic leader.
