Railway is driving the call for new long distance and high volume underground excavations. Planned high speed rail projects in the UK and Brazil alone require more than 150km of mostly twin-tube running tunnels, plus extensive underground stations. New baselines through the European Alps as well as new links in Norway, in the Gulf region, in China and in California, USA, are adding to the programme.
