Inhabiting the moon as a staging post for further outer space exploration brings focus again on the need for lunar underground space excavation. Designing TBMs that can be transported to the moon and can operate in its particular environment is a work in progress but costs and political support will be the final decider - as it is with major infrastructure projects back here on earth.
