Developing infrastructure and new technologies provides a foundation for innovative engineering. The mega shaft design of an interchange station on two new lines of the Grand Paris Express is the result of just such an opportunity with an elegant solution. The path of innovative engineering however can be an exercise in negotiating obstacles.
